Abstract
A mild ICl-induced cyclization of heteroatom-substituted alkynones provides a
simple, highly efficient approach to various 3-iodochromones,
iodothiochromenones, iodoquinolinones and analogues in good to excellent yields.
Subsequent palladium-catalyzed transformations afford a rapid increase in
molecular complexity.
