Abstract
The Kowalski ester homologation protocol has been applied to a representative range of α-amino esters to provide β-amino esters with excellent levels of enantio- and diastereocontrol. Since the Kowalski protocol avoids the need to handle hazardous intermediates, such as diazomethane and diazoketones, this straighforward one-pot reaction is especially attractive for larger scale.
