Abstract

The triphenylphosphine-catalyzed Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction of aldehydes with methyl vinyl ketone is effectively promoted in the presence of a catalytic amount of phenol to give the corresponding Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts in good yields. The mechanism is discussed.
