Remarkable Effect of Ethylene Gas in the Intramolecular Enyne Metathesis of Terminal Alkynes

Intramolecular enyne metathesis of terminal alkynes gave the desired cyclized dienes in almost quantitative yield in the presence of only 1 mol% of a ruthenium carbene complex under an atmosphere of ethylene gas. In the absence of ethylene, the desired products were obtained in low yields.
