Robust acenaphthoimidazolylidene palladium complexes are highly efficient and general catalysts for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of sterically hindered substrates in excellent yields with low catalyst loadings under mild conditions. Both the "flexible steric bulk" concept and σ-donor properties of the NHC ligands are crucial for the high catalytic activity of these complexes.
