Abstract

In an efficient α-hydroxylation of carbonyls compounds, readily available I₂ or NBS was used as catalyst and DMSO as terminal oxidant. The reaction is mild, less toxic, easy to perform and allows the conversion of a diverse range of tertiary as well as secondary Csp³-H bonds.
