Abstract

A reaction of xanthates, DMSO, and Fenton's reagent proceeds under very mild conditions to provide various β-keto sulfones in high yields.

see article for more examples

A dropwise addition of hydrogen peroxide is needed, as an addition in one portion can result in vigorous runaway with excess heating.
