Abstract

A Cu-catalyzed nucleophilic addition of readily available 2-halobenzamides to nitriles followed by S_NAr reaction enables a convenient synthesis of quinazolin-4(3H)-ones. The reaction proceeds smoothly in the presence of tBuOK as a base.
