Abstract

Tf2O promotes a Bischler-Napieralski-type synthesis of 3,4-dihydroisoquinolines from phenylethanols and nitriles via a tandem annulation, in which a phenonium ion as a stable and reactive primary phenylethyl carbocation is formed.
